Still here

Yes, I am still here!

Still not a Mormon, though I have now found a church that I do like!

This is after years of being put off joining any church by my experiences with Mormonism.

Finding myself being involved with and associated with a church did come as something of a surprise to me, but I think perhaps I was ready for this next stage in my life, this next step.

I am now enjoying Bible studies -assisted by my wife. I never thought I'd be back into studying the Bible, but it's different than with Mormonism. Joseph Smith isn't always trying to shoehorn himself in there, with spurious references to him and his "scriptures" throughout!

Incidentally, you can find out more about the church I am associated with at www.kcm.org.

I chose that picture from www.pixabay.com the website with over 1.3 million great images that you can use free, even for commercial purposes. (I'm not associated with Pixabay, I'm merely a very satisfied user.)

Hello, folks!

Been a long, long time since I posted anything on this blog.

Sorry 'bout that. But real life and other things seem to keep intruding!

I hope you are all doing well, Mormons or non-Mormons and ex-Mormons.

Life is far too short for animosity amongst people who should be friends.

After all, we were all made by the same God.

So, take care and I'll see you next time.

But let's hope the gap is a little bit shorter, OK?

A comment from a delightful young lady

Suzanne, a 12-year-old Mormon, left a comment on my blog.

She wrote: "I am a 12 year old Mormon. I love it. Do you know someone who is a Mormon? It is very true that it is the person not the religion. Some are bad some are good. I have a lot of non-Mormon friends. They are awesome. They know I am a Mormon and still are my friends. Joseph Smith never drank alcohol. He asked some people to stop spitting tobacco all over the temple, though. Where did you find your info? By the way, Mormons are Christians because we believe in Christ. it's as simple as that. I know he died on the cross so we can repent of our sins. which I have made a lot of mistakes. Our church is not the one that is bad. It is the people making mistakes. We all do. we are human. god does not make mistakes, and he made the church. My bishop is a very humble man. He does a ton of service. One time, all the youth got together and gathered food for the food bank. I was one of them. It was raining hard, but we all had fun and laughed really hard. I know you probably think I am bluffing. It's not right to clog drains. (What were they thinking?:) But we really did do it. How do you know Joseph Smith is a lunatic? How do you know it's not true? Thanks, but think about it."

Thank you, Suzanne. I was a Mormon for many years. I am now a former Mormon.

Joseph Smith was a drinker of some alcoholic drink. Wine, for example.

How do I know Mormonism is not true? I prayed about it.

Suzzane, thank you for your well-thought out comment.

God bless you.

Not posted in a while

Sorry that I haven't posted in a while. But I have been involved in other projects and have taken my eye off the ball, as it were, regarding my Notamormon blog.

Mormons are making capital out of the Book of Mormon, the Musical. Yay for the asshats from South Park. Well done. Not!

I haven't seen the show. Thanks guys. But I was in the living satire that is real Mormonism for long enough to not need to see your satire.

However, some people have said that the treatment of Ugandan Africans is racist. Well, it probably is. But the South Park idea is to satire something that really should not be satirised, so that the South Park dudes sit back, count the money coming in whilst laughing at the reaction of the audience to feeling guilty about laughing at it in the first place.

I think I'd have liked to have seen Brigham Young, the Musical. Now that ideas has the potential for some fun. Book, anyone? Libretto?

This comment just in

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Why Joseph Smith is not a prophet":

"Gonna need a little more evidence to actually support your reason, its humorous yet just a bunch of rambling you also have to mention that how did he get all smart enough to do what he did without an education? and other stuff like that. Going into another topic throws off your little statement either your a child who hasn't studied well enough, or the education of this world is so poor that no one can make a clear and direct statement. tis only my opinion of this little page."

Joseph Smith was not uneducated. His parents were school teachers. He received some home schooling from them.

New Year Greetings!

New Year Greetings to all the followers of this blog and also to anyone who happens to stumble upon it.

I hope to be a bit more active on this blog, but life tends to get in the way, sometimes!

Saw an Afro Caribbean missionary with his white companion

Just the other day. They were both young, serious-faced young men.

They were probably transferring somewhere (or one was) as they were going to catch a train.

I thought, for a fleeting moment, that I should ask him about how he felt about the racist history of the Mormon Church?

But I decided against it, because I thought: "I really do not want to get into a debate about this so early in the morning and I do not want to crush the poor fellows heart."

So I hurried on to the office (running late again, as usual!) and hoped that someday, he and his companion would know the truth. And be set free.

Mitt didn't win. This is good for Mormons

How so? Because now they will not have to spend four years explaining what Mitt really meant or apologising for his bonkers and bizarre decisions as President.

Trust me on this one, Mormons. Far better to dream of the reality rather than suffer it in actuality.

More Exciting time for Mormons

Most Mormons are looking forward to the election of Mitt Romney. You know him, don't you? The fellow who thinks it perfectly appropriate for a dog to be stashed away like a piece of luggage on a car roof?

Well, soon the waiting will  be over and Mitt "I'll be your very own personal weathervane, please vote for me," Romney might be the president of the USA.

Or will Mr Obama keep the toughest job in the Western World?

Only time will tell.

Exciting time for Mormons. But should they be concerned?

It's an exciting time for Mormons, with the candidacy of Mitt Romney for President.

There are some Mormons who see the candidacy of Mitt Romney as a great opportunity for publicity, to show people that the Mormons are not, as the used to boast, a 'peculiar people' but are just as normal as everybody else.

But then Mitt Romney does something stupid like thinking that it is entirely appropriate to put a dog in a box on top of a car and scare the poor creature so much that it developed stress diarrhoea and fouled itself.

Now, there's an interesting question. If there is someone who, as an adult with a wife and children   is so mindbogglingly stupid as to believe it  is appropriate and proper to maltreat a dog in that manner, is that person a fit and proper person to be in the election for president, let alone the president?

After all, one would expect anyone who is the candidate for president to have intelligence, fellow-feel, knowledge and wisdom. All, one might surmise, singularly lacking in someone who could so badly mistreat a family pet.

So, is Mormon Mitt Romney a good candidate for president? I have very severe  doubts about this.

There are other things that are questionable about Mitt Romney, such as his ability to change his views with more rapidity and less thought than some people change their socks.

And the ability of Mitt Romney and his wife to reinvent themselves is questionable.Their claims of poverty in their early married lives have a hollow ring to them. As a wise man once said: "Poverty to some people is having less that a £1,000 in their bank account. To others poverty is about not having enough food for your family to eat." Some observers believe that he should not be call Mitt Romney but rather Myth Romney, such is his desire and ability to spin myths about his early life and alleged poverty.

Other Mormons are darkly muttering about: "the Constitution hanging like a thread" as they hark back to one of the prophecies that date back to the early days of the Mormon Church, which foretold of the time when the  Constitution of the USA would be "hanging by a thread" and the Mormon Church would have to step in and take over the governance of the USA. They believe that Mitt Romney is the man, the Mormon man, who can do this. Is it a coincidence that there have been reports that some Mormons are  reportedly hoarding food, water, ammunition and firearms? Perhaps not.

The Mormons were dangerous in 19th century America. With their block voting tricks and their raids on non-Mormons and the theft of their property  and the murders they committed, they became a source of fear and a hiss word throughout the land of America.

With a Mormon, Mitt Romney, as president, is it likely that similar circumstances will arise again? No. This is highly unlikely. However, this is not to say that should Mitt Romney become president, that some Mormons (those types doing all the hoarding) might not decide to help things along.

Also, it is possible that the US Secret Service might have to provide protection for Mitt Romney against potential attacks from disaffected Mormons on the margins of Mormonism, especially those in the more extreme parts of fundamentalist Mormonism.

Long time no posts

Sorry about the lack of posts of late, but I have been very busy with several other projects, so my Not a Mormon blog has taken a back seat of late, for which I apologise.

I hope to be making some more regular posts here in the not too distant future.

With Mormons, it's all about publicity

With Mormons, it's all about publicity!

I saw an event recently. Many groups took part. Methodists, Church of England, Baptists, Lions, etc. And the Mormons.

You could tell which group was the Mormons as they all wore Tabbards advertising their church.

Why would they need to do this?

Poor summer, mainly

It has been a poor summer, in the main, in the UK.

Cold weather, high winds, lot of rain, floods, people being killed by the floods.

Hopefully we will have an Indian Summer later this year.

Summer is here!

The summer is here, at last!

Soon almost everyone will be celebrating the Queen's Jubilee.

I remember the 1977 Jubilee, there were street parties everywhere, streets were closed and food and drink served to the children by adults.

Where we live now will not have a street party but we will be having a BBQ with friends.

Happy Saint Georges Day!

Happy Saint Georges Day, everyone!

Today is the Saint's Day of St George, the Patron Saint of England.

The legend of Saint Georges Day is shrouded in myth and mystery.

By the way, it is also the 30th anniversary of the launch of the ZX Spectrum computer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZX_Spectrum

No Easter service?

Most Christian churches had special Easter services recently to celebrate or mark the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

The Mormon church had an advertising campaign to tell the world that Mormons are Christians.

The Mormon Church remembered to fund an advertising campaign but according to latest reports from the pews, the vast majority of Mormon wards/branches forgot to have special Easter services and/or hardly commemorated this special event in the Christian calender.

Which is probably why the Mormon church has to keep telling people that it really is a Christian church...

Snowing, again

Yes, preparations for spring and summer in the UK are somewhat curtailed, because the winter has come back!

7 or more inches of snow in Aviemore, Scotland, and even a couple of inches overnight, here in the English Midlands.

And soon I get to walk 2 miles to work! Yay, me!

Summer is on the way

The Canada Geese are still flying over, making their way back over the Atlantic from Canada.

You hear them go, and know winter is almost here. You hear them come back and you know that summer is almost here. It is a truly evocative sound.

I saw one stood on the roof of the hospital last night as the sun was setting.

I hope it will be a good summer, but I fear it will not be. We have had a hot, dry spell and the rivers are starting to run very low. So low that the River Severn river cruises in the town of Shrewsbury have been cancelled as the river is too shallow.

More on Mitt Romney, double-edged sword for Mormonism?

Is Mitt Romney a double-edged sword for Mormonism?

Whilst on the one hand, the old adage is: "No publicity is bad publicity" but does that always hold true.

Because on the other hand, for every positive aspect of Mormonism that comes up there other others that might give non-Mormons (and, truth to tell, some Mormons) food for thought.

What kinds of things am I thinking about: The fact that some rather dubious MLMs are based in Utah and are controlled by Mormons. (Along with some legit MLMs based in Utah, too, before anyone thinks me prejudiced) Mountain Meadows Massacre, the fact that Brigham Young decreed that any mixed race couple and their children should be hacked to death, that Mormons preach (or preached) that Black people had been less valiant in the pre-existence, siding neither with God or Satan, that Joseph Smith took many married lovers and had a Jeffs-style interest in very young girls and so on and on and on.

Romney has shown himself to be a total waste. No real man would put a dog on the top of a speeding car and travel with it there for mile after terrifying mile until the dog was so psychologically traumatised that it fouled itself in fear.

Do Mormons who sing the praise of Mitt really think that a man of that failed moral calibre is a fit and proper person to be the leader of the United States of America?

Is a Mormon candidate for president good or bad for the Mormon Church?

Mitt Romney as a presidential candidate is a two-edged sword for the Mormon Church.

On the one hand it gives Mormons the opportunity to discuss their faith, yet on the other hand it creates problems, rather than opportunities, at the same time.

"So, let me see... your church believes in Baptism for the dead, yet a number of Mormons keep putting the names of famous dead people from history forward as names to be baptised? They go through lists of famous disasters like the sinking of the Titanic and of awful, wicked events like the Holocaust and events like the Mountain Meadows Massacre and put those names forward for baptism?"

"By the way, is it true your church was racist up until at least 1978, that it believed that black skinned people were cursed, as they had been less valiant that white people in the pre-existence?

"And didn't Brigham Young preach that mixed marriages were not only immoral, but should invoke an automatic death sentence for both parties?"

When confronted with such information the average Mormon will say: "You have been listening to horrible, evil anti-Mormons!" not wanting to believe that such information is true.

Yet it is true. So, the candidacy of Mitt Romney not only helps other people to learn about the history of the Mormon Church, it can teach its members something about the history of the Mormon Church. Is that a good or a bad thing for the Mormon church and for the individual members?

The Mormon Church should have an historical Truth and Reconciliation Committee to look at the history of the Mormon Church, warts and all. That is what it needs. But it is the last thing the current or future leadership of the Mormon Church wants. Which is a pity.
